MMA Math Analysis: Who actually sold the most UFC PPVs?

MMA Math ppv

The common consensus of MMA fans is that the UFCs three biggest stars have been Conor McGregor, Brock Lesnar & Ronda Rousey; so, I decided to try and prove this theory as fact by compiling data from Dave Meltzer’s pay per view estimates.

For consistency, I’m only using the PPVs where the fighter mentioned appeared in the main event slot (Apart from Lesnar VS Hunt at UFC 200 which is an outlier) We’ve also estimated the price of a PPV to be $60.

Most PPVs sold in history:

  1. Georges St. Pierre – 9,275,000 Buys = $556,500,000
  2. Anderson Silva – 8,375,000 Buys = $ 502,500,000
  3. Brock Lesnar – 6,609,000 Buys = $ 396,540,000
  4. Conor McGregor – 6,292,000 Buys = $ 377,520,000 (Mayweather VS McGregor not included)
  5. Jon Jones – 5,812,000 Buys = $ 348,720,000
  6. Chuck Liddell – 5,384,000 Buys = $ 323,040,000
  7. Ronda Rousey – 5,035,000 Buys = $ 302,100,000

Average PPV Buyrate:

  1. Conor McGregor – 1,260,000 Average Buys = $75,600,000
  2. Brock Lesnar – 1,105,500 Average Buys = $66,330,000
  3. Ronda Rousey – 719,285 Average Buys = $43,157,100
  4. Georges St.Pierre – 713,461 Average Buys = $42,807,660
  5. Jon Jones – 528,364 Average Buys = $31,701,840
