Eleven years ago Eminem released a music video about a crazed fan named ‘Stan’ that obsessively wrote letters to him, which eventually led to his suicide. That song came out when I was in college at the University of Arizona, and I can’t believe I have to give all the life n00bs out there a refresher course on early 00s hip-hop. It’s not that I’m getting old, it’s just these young kids are growing up in a life devoid of culture and good music. Your generation made MTV kill the concept of the music video, and all of you Generation whatevers should be held responsible for its murder.
Last night on Facebook one of Daniel Cormier’s fans wrote a clever ‘Stan’ message to him with every lyric virtually identical (what’s up Goldberg!); just a few words were swapped out in the letter. Apparently the concept of ‘Stan’ went over Cormier’s head — or perhaps he was just trying to distance himself away from this ‘Ban’ guy. Either way, it’s hilarious and gets an A+ for ingenuity. Props to Jan on the news tip.
