- Miesha Tate was battered by Lauren Murphy to a unanimous decision loss
- “Cupcake” showed no signs of devastation in her statement following the brutal defeat
Miesha Tate failed to make her presence felt in the UFC women’s flyweight division after suffering a one-sided loss to Lauren Murphy at UFC on ABC 3. Nevertheless, “Cupcake” has kept a positive outlook in life and career.
It is what it is
Coming into the fight with Murphy, Tate was likely to get a crack at reigning flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko should she manages to secure the W. However, the former champ was beaten black and blue for three rounds, resulting to unanimous decision loss.

Addressing her defeat to social media, Tate showed nothing but positivity in a witty yet sensible statement.
“Some women pay a lot of money for lips like these!,” Tate wrote on Instagram. “All I had to do was get in a little fist fight! Tonight wasn’t my night, congratulations to @laurenmurphymma and we continue to learn the lessons of life! I had the most UH-mazing dinner at my favorite restaurant @cheeseboatbk and met Mama Cheeseboat herself. I’m still blessed beyond measure win lose or draw! Thank you to all those who continue to love and support me regardless, you know who you are.”
What’s next for “Cupcake”?
As things stand, Tate has gone 1-2 since coming out of retirement. While the UFC may still book her for a fight at the 125-pound division, the shot at the title has become a bit far-fetched following her recent defeat.
At 35 years old, official retirement could be an option for Tate but let’s see how “Cupcake” would weigh things up in the future.
