Miesha Tate will be taking on Lauren Murphy this July 2.
At UFC 276, Miesha Tate will return to action against Lauren Murphy in a flyweight contest. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion will go down in weight to compete at 125-lbs. Having made her comeback to fighting last July after a five-year hiatus, Tate has gone 1-1 in the UFC since.
Miesha Tate doesn’t think Valentina Shevchenko won at UFC 275
In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Miesha Tate shared her thoughts on Valentina Shevchenko’s recent title defense against Taila Santos at UFC 275. Shevchenko came out on top by a split decision in a razor close fight that many believed should’ve gone Santos’ way.
“I, honestly at my first impression thought that Taila Santos won the first three rounds. That’s how I saw it. And then going back and watching it, I could see an argument where Valentina, depending what you favour, could have won the fight.
“But in my mind, I still feel like Taila Santos won it especially because I think that the visual of the eye, which I believe primarily came from the head butt, was calculated in the judges’ minds. However, it really shouldn’t have been because it was a foul essentially so I think Taila took it.”
Tate backs Julianna Pena to beat Amanda Nunes
When asked about how she sees the highly anticipated rematch of Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes going down, Tate backed Pena without a moment of hesitation.
She definitively believes her training partner will retain her title at UFC 277.
“Oh, Julianna, for sure. Yeah, yeah, for sure. I knew she could do it the first time and people were kinda like, ‘oh, you’re crazy, you’re just biased'”
“But, now the aura of invincibility has been cracked. It’s been damaged a little bit and I think not only everybody else knows it, Amanda knows it because Julie’s just not afraid of Amanda like all the other women were kind of like, deer in headlights, and getting scared”
“Julie’s like, ‘I don’t give a F. I’m going to go out there and I’m going to punch this woman in the face and I’m going to make it an ugly fight and she’s going to know she was in one regardless'”
“I’m very confident that Julie can do this a second time and she’s a savage, she’s a beast.”
Tate alleged that Nunes might be making excuses in regards to switching her training camp as she believes ATT is the gym that helped her become the fighter she is.
