Michelle Waterson Scores A Gritty Victory Over Cortney Casey

UFC on Fox 29 main card opened with women’s strawweight bout between Michelle Waterson and Cortney Casey. It aired on FOX following prelims on FOX and UFC Fight Pass.

Waterson, “The Karate Hottie,” was trying to get back on track from two consecutive losses, while Cortney Casey had most recently loss a controversial split decision to Felice Herrig.

Casey was in control of the striking, as she more or less bullied her opponent in the standup. Waterson scored a late takedown, though, grabbing onto a single leg and getting the fight back to the canvas.

Casey attempted several submissions from the bottom in the second round. Almost end of the round get back on the feet, Waterson dropped Casey with a body kick.

In the third round Waterson looking for the takedown, Casey going for the armbar and not able to finish the submission as time expired. After three rounds of grueling war, Judges gave a split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) to Waterson.

Waterson now 15-6, with wins in four or her past six fights. Casey dropped to 7-6 with her third loss in her past four.
