Michael Chandler thinks he’s the perfect dance partner for Conor McGregor.

If there’s one constant in MMA it’s McGregor’s drawing abilities. While some are convinced that McGregor is past his prime, he continues to top over a million PPV buys and sets live gate records. It’s why so many UFC fighters continue to clamor for a showdown with the “Notorious” one.

Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor?

During an interview with Damon Martin of MMAFighting, Michael Chandler said that if he isn’t in line for a title shot should he win his next fight, then he wants to collide with Conor McGregor.

“It’s definitely one I’m interested in. I want the Conor fight for the magnitude of the moment. Stepping inside the Octagon and doing something really monumental and fighting him in front of all the mixed martial arts eyeballs, eyeballs all across the entire world.

“You don’t get a bigger platform than fighting Conor McGregor. So, that’s what I would love to happen if I don’t get the title shot of course. July-August would be great for me. I will go out there, beat Tony in May, just have a little bit of time to recover, and then go right back into training camp for a July-August fight.

“The timing works out perfect. I think I’m a great guy for Conor. If he comes back and he doesn’t get the title shot, he’s gonna have to go through somebody to get that title shot.”

McGregor is recovering after suffering a broken tibia and fibula in his July 2021 trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. “Mystic Mac” underwent successful surgery and if all continues to go well, he may be on pace to return later in the summer. Of course, that time frame is not guaranteed.

Chandler is scheduled to share the Octagon with Tony Ferguson on May 7. The lightweight scrap will be featured on the UFC 274 card.
