Michael Bisping, a famous UFC fighter, wants his friend and podcast co-host, Anthony Smith, to keep fighting in the Octagon, even after a tough performance at UFC 310.
Anthony fought Dominick Reyes at UFC 310, but it was a hard night for him. He was still heartbroken over losing his coach and friend, Scott Morton, and was trying to deal with all of that while fighting. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and Anthony lost the fight by TKO. It was a tough moment when Anthony seemed to ask Reyes to punch him, showing how much he was struggling. After the fight, Anthony got emotional and talked about possibly retiring because fighting without his coach felt too hard.
Fans were sad watching Anthony, who had once been at the top of his game, go through this. But Bisping still believes in Anthony and thinks he should keep fighting. He feels that Anthony has what it takes to compete again and should train like he’s fighting for the biggest title in the sport.
Michael Bisping wants Anthony Smith to continue fighting after UFC 310
On a recent episode of their podcast, Believe You Me, Michael Bisping talked about how Anthony Smith did in his last fight and what he thinks Anthony should do next. Bisping shared his thoughts and gave his advice, telling Anthony not to give up just yet. He believes Anthony has more to give and should keep going, even though things didn’t go well in his last fight.
“I don’t think he should’ve taken that fight, at all,” Bisping said of Smith. “But I don’t think he will retire. I think when he watches that back, he’s going to be embarrassed when he watches it, and it’ll inspire him to come back. The world doesn’t deserve to remember him like that…
“Maybe it was therapeutic in some ways, but I’d like to see him fight again…this isn’t a sport that you play, and that’s why Dana White says Chris Weidman and Clay Guida need to retire. That s*** will stay with you,” Bisping continued. “If he fights, I’m going to give him a call, and say ‘If you do this, do it for the right reasons. Train as if you’re training for a world title fight, as if you’re going against Jon Jones’. Leave no stone unturned, otherwise if you’re not willing to do that, then don’t even think about it in the first place!”
Before Anthony Smith lost to Reyes, he had another tough loss to Roman Dolidze at UFC 303, where he stepped in on short notice. His last win was against Vitor Petrino at UFC 301, where he looked strong, winning by submitting Petrino in the first round.
After UFC 310, Dana White, the UFC boss, suggested that Anthony, Chris Weidman, and Clay Guida might want to retire after their losses. However, Clay Guida didn’t agree with Dana and decided to keep fighting and prepare for his return to the Octagon.
Anthony Smith is still heartbroken over the loss of his close friend and coach, Scott Morton. He’s one of the top light heavyweights in UFC history, with wins over big names like Rashad Evans, Alexander Gustafsson, and Volkan Oezdemir. He also had a shot at the light heavyweight title at UFC 235 but lost to Jon Jones.
Along with his fighting career, Anthony is also a well-known analyst for ESPN’s MMA coverage. When he decides to stop fighting, he has a bright future in broadcasting ahead.
Right now, though, as Anthony continues to grieve, fighting might be the last thing on his mind after UFC 310. But Michael Bisping hopes that Anthony will step back into the Octagon one more time so fans can remember him for all the great things he’s done in his career.
