Michael Bisping revealed who is the rightful next contender for Israel Adesanya.

‘The Count’ explained why Alex Pereira makes sense as the top contender for Israel Adesanya. Following a vicious knockout of Sean Strickland on the same card as Izzy, Pereira put himself in a prime position to get a shot at the promotional gold.

While many allege that Pereira is skipping the line having fought only three times in the UFC, Bisping expands on why it needs to happen.

Michael Bisping clarifies his review of Israel Adesanya’s latest fight

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping talked about the expected matchup between ‘Poatan’ and UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Bisping criticized Adesanya’s lackluster performance in the headlining bout of UFC 276 in a previous video, which led many to believe he was being too harsh or was against the 185 lbs king. He started by clarifying his stance on Izzy’s most recent title defense against Jared Cannonier.

“Ultimately, he did what he needed to do which is win the fight. We always see this, when fighters become champions, when they become established long-time champions, they’re some of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

“Sometimes, the style can change, sometimes the pressure can get to them… by the way, I’m not saying that pressure even got to Israel Adesanya.”

‘The Count’ explains why Alex Pereira should challenge for the title next

‘Stylebender’ has proven to be a dominant champion in his division. He’s lapping past contenders and has secured a couple of wins over multiple opponents. When we look at the UFC official rankings, there is no contender above ‘Poatan’ who Izzy hasn’t already beat.

Bisping echoed that thought and backed Alex Pereira to challenge for the title next.

“It’s Alex Pereira. Some people aren’t happy and probably Izzy feels the same way. I know his coach, Eugene Bareman, says that Pereira’s skipping the line. I guess he is but the reality is, who else is there because Izzy’s so dominant. Izzy’s so good he’s running out of opponents.

“Robert Whittaker, beat him twice, Jared Cannonier, just took him out, Marvin Vettori, beaten him twice, Derek Brunson, knocked him out in style, Paulo Costa, beaten him.

“Sean Strickland, no need just got knocked out. These guys aren’t getting a title fight anytime soon. The reason that Alex Pereira is because there’s a storyline there. We know what the storyline is, he beat him twice in kickboxing.”

“This is going to be a kickboxing match in a UFC octagon wearing 4 oz gloves and when they had those kinds of fights in the past, Pereira’s beaten him twice, regardless of how close”

“The next fight for Israel Adesanya in my opinion has to be Alex Pereira because of the storyline.”

Pereira has competed against Adesanya on two occasions in kickboxing. He came out on top of both contests and is the only man to have ever knocked out Izzy. Adesanya’s expected to face ‘Poatan’ in his next title defense.
