Despite contrary belief, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler is still happening.

At least, that’s what the bigger half of the marquee matchup McGregor had to say about it. The UFC superstar was pitted against Chandler earlier this year as coaches of the newest season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’. But, there has been questions raised if the two will even fight at all since McGregor has taken his sweet time to get back in the USADA testing pool and also because a date has not been announced yet for the fight.

McGregor Gives New Info

McGregor has provided an update in regards to re-entering the USADA pool, something he needs to cross off his checklist to ensure his massive comeback can be completed— which McGregor wants to do by the end of the year.

“That’s done,” McGregor told several media outlets on Friday. “By year’s end, I’m back in that cage having competed. I’m gearing up now, ready to go. [The fight with] Michael Chandler, it will be announced during The Ultimate Fighter.

“The Ultimate Fighter is airing in a couple of days on ESPN, and by the time that show finishes, we’ll have a date and it will be set for the fans.”

Conor vs. Canelo?

MMA might be next up on McGregor’s fighting radar, however that doesn’t stop ‘The Notorious’ from dreaming about having a second boxing match. Perhaps this time with the Spanish-speaking superstar Canelo Alvarez as a reporter suggested.

“I’m a southpaw, [John] Ryder was a southpaw, Billie Joe [Saunders] was a southpaw. I’ve seen methods, I’ve seen things I’d do and I know he’s waning. I’d fight Canelo no f*cking problem,” McGregor said. “No problem.”

Canelo is coming off a dominant performance of John Ryder in his home country of Mexico and sports a record of 59-2-2. Meanwhile McGregor is 0-1 in the ring, losing a super fight against boxing great Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.

While Canelo vs. McGregor doesn’t make much sense, it definitely would make a lot of cents financially, should it somehow happen down the line.
