McGregor at WrestleMania, UFC 223 backup plans and more in the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill

Happy April Fool’s Day. Happy Easter. Moving forward all Easter celebrations should fall on April Fool’s Day. MMA also needs a yearly event held exclusively on April Fool’s Day for the sake of the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill.

Maybe the last sport on Earth that needs April Fool’s Day shenanigans is MMA. The sport of human cage fighting provides us with weekly shit that the greatest fiction writers in this Universe could not make up. Stay strange MMA.

As always these are rumors that have been talked about behind closed doors between MMA higher ups, so take them as MMA rumors.

Pop some birded shaped flavored marshmallow candy in the microwave, watch the slow radioactive rotation of inevitability and then stuff your face with some organic Sunday Morning Rumor Mill.

  • Crazy if true but their have been rumblings for the past few weeks that the WWE and Conor McGregor may be working on an one-off appearance. We’ve heard these rumors before, but don’t be surprised if McGegor makes an appearance at WrestleMania next Sunday in New Orleans.
  • Now a four-year-old streaming service, rumors say UFC Fight Pass may be making a bigger push to expand in the near future. Rather than mostly relaying on archived fights, over the next six months Fight Pass will look to have more original content other than the typical Fight Night offerings. The UFC getting behind Fight Pass adds further speculation that the MMA promotion and Amazon are looking at some kind of deal.
  • With UFC 223 headlined by Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, the company is rumored to be working on several backup plans in case one or both fighters do not make it to Saturday night. Former world champion Anthony Pettis as well as Al Iaquinta have already been tabbed as possible last minute replacement options for the UFC.
  • Rumors are Brock Lesnar has worked his last house show for the WWE. Lesnar can still appear on WWE TV but reports are he likely will not work any further house show events; a further sign Lesnar may be closer to a MMA return.
