“Superfights are where the money is”

In an interview with James Lynch for Middle Easy, ‘The Future’ talked about a potential mega-fight between Kamaru Usman and Canelo Alvarez. Barber was supportive of the idea and expressed her interest in the crossover event.

“I feel like super fights are where the money is,” Barber said. “It’s really cool to see. It is really cool to see the crossover.

“I feel like it brings the fans from both sports to the other sport. You can bring boxing fans over to MMA. You can bring MMA fans over to boxing. It’s a benefit all the way around.”

Barber talked about a possible match-up against a female boxer for herself and was attracted to the idea of it happening in the future.

“I don’t mind it. Someday if that happens for me, I’m definitely going to go for it so why not?” said Barber.

Targeting international fight week for the next bout

After a win over Miranda Maverick last July, Barber extended her winning run to two this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 205: Lemos vs. Andrade, UFC women’s flyweight contender Maycee Barber extends her winning run to two. Coming fresh off a dominating victory against Montana De La Rosa, Maycee Barber is already thinking about her step.

When probed by Lynch about when she’s looking to get back in the cage, Barber stated that she’s “in conversation” for her next fight already. As for her next opponent, she leaves it up to her management to decide but has faith in the UFC. It’s likely we may get to see Barber return to action for a spot on the card during the international fight week in June-July.

“We’re actually in conversation. Nothing’s been announced. Nothing’s been confirmed but we’re already in the conversation of that. So hopefully, I’ll have some fight news in the next few days or weeks or so,” said Barber.

Barber backs Justin Gaethje over champion Charles Oliveira

Maycee Barber has backed Justin Gaethje to get the job done against current UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira this May 7 at UFC 274.

“I’m going with Gaethje. I have to go with Gaethje,” Barber said. “I’ve trained with Trevor (Wittman), I’ve trained with Rose (Namajunas), I’ve trained with Gaethje. All of those guys, I have a lot of respect for them.”

Barber got coaching from one of the most renowned coaches in the game, Trevor Wittman, and trained with the likes of Gaethje, Rose Namajunas, and others on her way up.

She talked about how Gaethje and Namajunas helped her as a newcomer to the sport and cites ‘Highlight’ as an inspiration saying, “He’s a huge inspiration and I’d love to see him shine.”
