Maycee Barber stepped back into the octagon at UFC 323 and closed the night with a clear decision win after being out of action for 21 months. Her return followed repeated medical emergencies that halted her momentum after she had assembled 6 consecutive victories in the flyweight class.

The flyweight meeting with Karine Silva lasted the full 3 rounds, and the score totals came in at 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28. Those numbers pushed Barber’s overall streak to 7 wins in a row, keeping her near the front of the title race.

Once the result was confirmed, Barber released a straightforward message of relief and gratitude.

“I’m not just happy, I’m blessed,” Barber explained following her win. “It’s been a rough journey to get here. It wasn’t really in the plan to get hit with that [illegal kick]. I was a little dizzy but you get punched in the face, too, so it’s OK. I’m here so it’s all right.

“I’m just blessed to be here. I just wanted to be here. I want to be here and do what I love.”

Round 1

Barber came out fast, stacking together clean boxing combinations while adding body and leg kicks. Silva responded by slipping enough shots to prevent early trouble and eventually timed a counter that let her work Barber to the fence for a takedown. She moved to the back and locked in a body triangle while chasing submissions. Barber stayed calm, reversed the position as the clock began to expire, and fired off ground strikes just before the round closed.

Round 2

Barber opened the second frame by forcing the action and getting Silva down quickly. Silva tried to halt the momentum with an illegal kick that forced the referee to pause the contest. After a brief recovery, Barber reengaged, secured another takedown, and unloaded with punches and elbows until Silva scrambled into space. Silva attempted a triangle choke late in the round, but Barber handled the position until the horn.

Round 3

Silva managed an early takedown and shifted toward a heel hook attempt. Barber slipped out and took the top position. Silva chased another triangle setup, but Barber escaped and stood again. Barber kept landing combinations while Silva slowed noticeably as time ticked down.

This performance marked Barber’s first fight since a run of health scares that had jeopardized her career. Instead of stepping away, she returned and added another important victory to her record. With Valentina Shevchenko still holding the division’s crown, Barber’s path toward a title opportunity remains very much alive.
