Max Holloway believes a fight with Conor McGregor could be down the line for him.
Holloway first met the Irish superstar in August 2013 when the two were in the early stages of their careers. They would go the distance with McGregor coming out on top by a unanimous decision. McGregor went on to achieve unparalleled heights in the sport while Holloway grew to be a fan favorite and a top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter.
Max Holloway teases potential rematch with Conor McGregor
In an interview with Brett Okamoto from ESPN MMA, Max Holloway said that he’s on a short list of competitors for McGregor to face in a potential fight. He doesn’t believe ‘The Notorious’ will come back to competition.
“All jokes aside with that Conor fight, I tell you all the time you know we on a short list with that. But first things first we got Volk but we see you know with all this Conor talk and saying whatever. He never committed to coming back. He never once said that he’d come back, and rightfully so he shouldn’t.
“I wouldn’t even blame him if he didn’t want to come back. It’s like if he wants to come back, that’s just his competitive side straight doing it.”
Holloway: “Conor is what everybody wants to be”
‘Blessed’ stated that every athlete in the game wants to achieve the success that McGregor managed to get. He talked about a moment that could happen 100 years from now in reference to the competitiveness the two men share.
“Conor is what everybody wants to be, everybody wants to get in this fight game, make the money, and then save your chickens.”
“I’ll probably be 100 years, he’d probably be 100 years old and who knows you know he might be playing an old fight at when I’m a 100 years old and he’s walking back and forth in front of the camera a 100 years from now.”
Holloway will take on the reigning UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski for a third time on July 2 at UFC 276.
