Max Holloway Medically Unfit To Fight At UFC 223, Anthony Pettis Step In Against Khabib

UFC 223 continues to pile up with disasters, from Tony Ferguson’s injury to pull out of UFC 223 card, Conor Mcgregor’s attack on a bus and now featherweight champion Max Holloway been pulled from his scheduled bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov after being deemed medically unfit to compete.

Holloway who stepped in on short notice to save the main event title fight, with that some serious concerns were running about his massive weight cut all week. This morning, Max Holloway failed to make it to the weigh-ins and was declared “medically unfit to fight” by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).(Quote Via MMAJunkie)

“With much regret, and after careful review, a joint decision was made between the state athletic commission and the UFC,” Kim Sumbler, the executive director of the NYSAC, told reporters at the official weigh-ins. “We’ve deemed Mr. Holloway medically unfit to attend the scales (to weigh in). No further comments at this time. We apologize.”

UFC president Dana White announced during this morning’s UFC 223 weigh-ins:

BREAKING: Max Holloway has been declared medically unfit to fight. Holloway is out of UFC 223. Per Dana White.

Reports emerged that UFC is currently trying to put together a replacement main event between Nurmagomedov and former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Pettis was originally slated to fight Michael Chiesa before McGregor’s melee caused multiple lacerations on Chiesa’s face and subsequently pulled him out of the fight.
