Retired UFC Fighter Matt Hamill Demands Rematch with Jon Jones to Settle Controverisal 12-to-6 Elbow DQ

Hamill, who hasn't fought since 2018, is ready to run it back with the GOAT.

If Jon Jones wants the lone loss removed from his record, Matt Hamill thinks he should have to fight for it.

Hamill currently holds the only victory over ‘Bones’ stemming from a 2009 scrap where the reigning undisputed UFC heavyweight champion was disqualified for landing a series of 12-to-6 elbows—an illegal maneuver up until earlier this week when the Association of Boxing Commissions voted to abolish the rule

Jones responded to the news by requesting Dana White’s help in getting the DQ loss expunged from his record.

Hamill, who went 10-5 during his seven-year-long run with the promotion, offered up a solution in response to Jones’ demand.

“Let’s cut [to the chase Dana White] — I know you’re desperate to get [Jon Jones] an undefeated record,” Hamill wrote on Instagram. “I see how you want to profit from that! [It’s] also why you bail him out of all the other things. How about a rematch? I’ll be happy to fight him for a heavyweight title. If I beat him, I want a UFC belt. Let me know if Stipe Miocic backs out. I’ll take [it on] short notice, just remember he already lost to me.”

Matt Hamill Has Been Out of Action Since 2018

Considering Dana White is usually the one touting Jon Jones as undefeated, Hamill shouldn’t hold his breath for a fight with the consensus GOAT.

‘The Hammer’ last competed inside the Octagon more than a decade ago, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Silva at UFC Fight Night 29. It would take him four years to return to the win column, earning a first-round KO against Luiz Cané on the regional MMA scene.

His last fight was in May 2018 under the Maverick MMA banner where he bested Chris Birchler via split decision.

Hamill was part of Team Tito Ortiz on season three of The Ultimate Fighter in 2006 and earned a win over Mike Nickels in the preliminary round. He was forced out of the competition following the fight due to injury, but later competed at the finale, bagging a win over Jesse Forbes.

Overall, Hamill is 13-8 in his career and is a three-time performance bonus winner.
