Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera has made it very clear when he fights somebody; that he is not their friend.

Vera returns to action in his second straight main event this weekend at UFC San Diego. He faces former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in a pivotal matchup in which the winner could be one win away from a title shot.

You’re not my fu*king friend

While there was a little bit of bad blood leading up before the matchup was finalized because Chito felt like Cruz simply refused to fight him, it seems like the tension has passed. However, Vera made it clear on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour – he is not your friend.

“Yeah, I don’t have a problem with him. People get it twisted. Just because I keep it real, you’re not my fu*king friend. Like I’m not gonna hold dicks with you and fight and be like, ‘Oh my brother, may the best man will win.’ I don’t see like that. Fighting is a fu*ked up thing to do for a living,” Vera said. “So, you know, all my friends are gonna be there. My closest people are gonna get in the cage with me. My family, my wife, my kids will be there. My dad and my mom, so those are the people.

“I don’t have anything against no one. This isn’t about Dominck, this isn’t about my last opponent or my future opponent. I just don’t give a fu*k. We are fighting. We are gonna get in a fu*king cage, and one man’s gonna make half of their paycheck. There isn’t anything friendly in fighting. So I don’t know if I really hurt his feelings, or he got weirded out with me. I’m a professional, you know, I respect everybody, but if you are about to fight me, or we can fight, I’m not going to be nice to you.”

It is only Monday, so we will see how the rest of the week goes between the two bantamweight headliners.

Biggest fight?

Vera was indifferent when asked if this was the biggest fight of his career.

Vera feels like his fight against Jose Aldo was the biggest fight of his career; however, with the stakes of UFC San Diego, he thinks Cruz could be the biggest fight.

“At the moment, this is the biggest part of my career because it is the one that I have in front of me right now. You know, he is a guy that held the belt for a long time. It didn’t fight a lot but held on for a long time. And [he is a] WEC champion so yeah, the biggest fight of today? Yes,” Vera said.

UFC San Diego goes down this Saturday, August 13.
