Marlon Moraes has moved into a very different kind of job after his fighting career.
The former World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion and former UFC title challenger is now working as a police officer in Coral Springs, Florida, according to a CBS News profile cited in the source report. Moraes retired from MMA in 2023 after a first-round technical knockout loss to Gabriel Braga in PFL.
Moraes explained the change in direct terms.
“Every time I go to work, I want to help someone,” Moraes said. “When the call comes, I want to be the one.”
His final stretch in MMA was rough. Before the Braga loss, Moraes also lost to Song Yadong in March 2022 and Merab Dvalishvili in September 2021. Earlier in his UFC run, he scored notable wins over Aljamain Sterling and Jose Aldo, then fought Henry Cejudo for the vacant bantamweight title in 2019.

The report also included praise from inside the department.
“I found a professional, compassionate, charismatic individual who wants to serve the community,” Coral Springs Deputy Chief Ryan Gallagher said.
Moraes finished his MMA career with a 23-13-1 record. Now, instead of chasing another comeback, he is building a second act far away from the cage.
