Mark Hunt very rarely goes to the ground, despite he is BJJ purple belt. The Super Samoan didn’t have an intention to become a professional MMA fighter, but after he started a brawl outside a nightclub in Auckland, he knocked multiple people out. That impressed a bouncer Sam Marsters, who invited him to train martial arts.

Mark Hunt had his MMA debut at PRIDE Critical Countdown 2004, and he was defeated from Hidehiko Yoshida via armbar. After this fight, he won 4 opponents in the row, including the K-1 world champion Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic.

He is defeated by Fedor Emelianenko in the PRIDE Fighting Championship Finals via kimura. Melvin Manhoef knocked him out after only 18 seconds in the first round, which is Hunt’s quickest defeat. Mark Hunt had his UFC debut against Sean McCorkle at UFC 119 on September 25, 2010, in Indianapolis, Indiana. McCorkle won via straight armbar submission in the first round.

Hunt had his first UFC victory against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 on February 27, 2011, via spectacular right uppercut to the chin. It was his first Knockout Of The Night, and he earned the reputation of “The King Of Walk-Off” after this match.

In the next fight, Mark Hunt defeated Ben Rothwell at UFC 135 on September 24, 2011, via unanimous decision.
