Maia Calls Out Sanchez after UFC Singapore

Demian Maia defeated Ben Askren at UFC Singapore via rear-naked choke in the third round of their welterweight bout. After securing the victory, Maia said that he believes he only has two fights left in him. Specifically, Maia declared that he would love for one of those fights to be against Diego Sanchez. Sanchez recently responded to Maia’s respectful call out and of course, he brought the same passion that’s synonymous with his fighting style.

Sanchez responded to Maia’s callout via Instagram. Reposting Maia’s post-fight speech, Diego wrote a caption explaining how he’s ready for the matchup. Also, Sanchez has a date in mind of January 18th for the bout. Which is also the same date that Conor McGregor is expected to make his return.

Diego Reacts to Callout via Social Media

“Let’s go (Dana White.) I didn’t get the go on the (Anthony Pettis) fight. I have paid my dues, only you know the truth of my last outing. Let’s put it together Jan 18th in Vegas!!! two legends want to dance let us dance! @ufc” wrote Sanchez on Instagram.

Sanchez is coming off a loss against Michael Chiesa at UFC 239. Before that bout, Sanchez was riding a two-fight win streak against Craig White and the Mickey Gall. Diego finished Gall during the fight via TKO in the second round and earned himself a performance of the night bonus.

Maia, on the other hand, is currently on a three-fight win streak at the age of 41 years old. And while he called out Sanchez for a fight, it leaves one more slot open for himself announced last two fights.

End of Maia’s Career

UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal has already stated that he would love to be Maia’s last fight before he decides to retire. Even if Masvidal were to win the welterweight title, he would still love to give Maia a shot at gold on his way out of the door.

Maia was always been a man of class and character. Sanchez is a long established vet who has always paid his dues. Booking this fight should be easy for both men and the UFC.

Hopefully, we’ll hear the announcement of Maia and Sanchez made sometime in the near future.
