- Magomed Ankalaev didn’t agree to Alex Pereira’s charity bet challenge
- The title challenger took a jab at “Poatan” for publicizing his intension to donate
Magomed Ankalaev criticized Alex Pereira over his idea of charity bet, emphasizing betting is strictly prohibited in Islam.
Ankalaev isn’t allowed to bet
Pereira finally received a response from Ankalaev after he issued a charity bet challenge to his upcoming UFC 313 opponent. However, it wasn’t what the Brazilian expected as the title challenger refuse to agree.
In his reply on social media, Ankalaev cited that Muslims are not allowed to participate in any betting activities. Moreover, Ankalaev thinks “Poatan” should’ve just opted to invite him to donate to charities without publicizing it.
“As a Muslim you know betting is forbidden in Islam, and also as a Muslim every year I have to give 2.5% of my wealth to charity this is one of the five pillars of Islam. Many kids around the world are in need and we can do things after the fight but we don’t have to publicize it,” Ankalaev wrote on X.

Ankalaev wants to leave it to their managers
Ankalaev then came up with another suggestion. He wants his and Pereira’s managers to take care of the donations stuff as he believes it is a more appropriate way to do it.
“Your manager and my manager have a good relationship and we can let them handle that, see you soon. Ramadan Mubarak,” Ankalaev wrote in another post.

Pereira and Ankalaev will square up in the main event of UFC 313 this weekend. The reigning light heavyweight champion will hope to defend his belt for the fourth consecutive time, while the challenger aims to prove that he is the best 205-pounder in the world.
