Magomed Ankalaev has spoken publicly for the first time since losing his title fight to Alex Pereira at UFC 320. The knockout defeat ended his championship run and shifted the light heavyweight division.

The fight took place on Saturday night. Pereira stopped Ankalaev in the first round, reclaiming the belt they had previously fought for. The result was a tough setback for Ankalaev, who had defeated Pereira earlier this year and entered the rematch on a long unbeaten streak.

Ankalaev’s First Words After the Loss

The day after the fight, Ankalaev released a short message to his supporters. His statement focused on faith, strength, and gratitude, showing that he plans to move forward despite the loss.

“If Allah tested me with defeat, then He wants to toughen me.
I bow to His will, but not to difficulties.
To those who stayed – thank you.
To those who turned out, thank you too.
After all, Allah clears the way not only of weakness, but also of unnecessary people.”

His words showed calmness and perspective after a major career moment. He also thanked both those who supported him and those who didn’t, framing the experience as part of his journey.

This defeat was Ankalaev’s first since 2018, when he lost to Paul Craig by submission in the final seconds of his UFC debut. Since then, he built a 14-fight unbeaten streak, defeating top fighters and eventually capturing the title.

One of those wins came at UFC 313, where he earned a decision victory over Pereira. That result led him to the championship. The rematch at UFC 320 reversed the outcome, with Pereira winning by knockout and taking back the belt.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether Ankalaev will get an immediate rematch. But given his strong record, he remains one of the top names in the division.

Ankalaev’s message suggests he is treating the loss as a test, not a roadblock. His experience and consistency make him a likely contender again in the near future.

The light heavyweight title picture has changed with Pereira’s return, but Ankalaev still has the skills and reputation to stay in the mix for big fights.
