A 24-year-old jiu-jitsu phenom Mackenzie Dern who made her much anticipated UFC debut on a good note defeating Ashley Yoder via split decision at UFC 222 on March 3 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

Regardless of her win, Dern obviously has some work to do, in term of takedowns and the striking department.

Dern is known as one of the most talented female grapplers in the sport, made her MMA debut back in July 2016, since then she is riding (6-0).

Following a successful Octagon debut, Dern would like to participate at May 12th’s UFC 224 event against Amanda Cooper, which is set to take place at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The event airs on pay-per-view (PPV) following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

“I know she has two losses by submission. So, I definitely know the girls she fought before, submission-wise, weren’t as good as I am on the ground, so I think this fight is gonna end up in submission. And my goal in this fight is not to be too much staying standing up (laughs). I don’t wanna stay too much standing up, I want to get the submission for Brazil, show like the real Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. So I’m gonna say submission.”

Amanda Cooper, meanwhile, looks to add another victory after earning a second-round TKO win over Angela Magana last December. She’s currently 2-2 in her UFC career.

UFC 224 headlined by a bantamweight title bout between Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington.
