BJJ Black Belt Mackenzie Dern Plans Octagon Return Against Amanda Ribas Only Five Months After Welcoming Her Child To The World!
BJJ ace Mackenzie Dern took some time off from fighting after announcing pregnancy earlier this year. She gave birth to a girl Moa in June 2019. Yet, according to the ESPN report, it seems she returns to the Octagon.
The former BJJ World Champion verbally agreed to square off against Amanda Ribas on October 12, 2019. The location is unknown yet, but it will be announced soon.
Mackenzie Dern last met Amanda Cooper at UFC 224, where she scored a submission win, but Dern didn’t receive the full purse because she weighed seven pounds above the Strawweight limit.
Before that competition, she scored a tight split decision victory over Ashley Yoder and forced Kaline Medeiros to tap out after a textbook third-round armbar. Until now, Mackenzie Dern (7-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) stayed perfect.
On the other hand, Amanda Ribas (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) scored a rear-naked choke win over Emily Whitmire at UFC on ESPN 3. Ribas’ only loss happened in 2015 when Polyana Viana turned the lights out on her in the first round of Jungle Fight 83 bout.
There is no doubt a victory over Mackenzie Dern would be the greatest success of Amanda’s career. The event is headlined by the clash between Muay Thai expert and the former Strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk and dangerous striker Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson.
So what do you think about this? Will Mackenzie follow the footsteps of Julianna Peña and score a victory after welcoming her child to the world?
