Mackenzie Dern is still the UFC strawweight champion after five grappling-heavy rounds with Gillian Robertson in the UFC 330 co-main event.
Dern defeated Robertson by unanimous decision Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The official scorecards were 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47, giving Dern her first successful title defense and moving her to 17-5. Robertson fell to 17-9 after coming up short in a matchup built around two of the division’s best ground specialists.

Dern Controlled The Ground Exchanges
The champion started fast, punching into takedown entries and forcing Robertson to defend from uncomfortable spots. Dern took Robertson down in the opening round, moved through half guard, threatened a kimura, and nearly finished a rear-naked choke before the horn.
Round 2 kept the same theme. Dern scored an immediate takedown and repeatedly advanced before Robertson found brief top position during a scramble. Even there, Dern stayed dangerous from her back, attacked the legs, and finished the round on top after forcing Robertson to defend through the exchange.
Robertson had more moments on the feet in Round 3, but Dern’s right hand, body kick, lateral movement, and late takedown gave her another strong frame. The fourth round was another long control round for Dern, who climbed to the back and hunted the choke while Robertson spent most of the round stuck underneath.
Robertson finally banked her clearest round in the fifth after a takedown and top control, but she needed a finish by then. Dern stayed composed from guard, kept herself out of major danger, and reached the final horn with the belt still in her corner.
The win closed a title-week story that had already been building through the grappling matchup. Dern said before the fight that Robertson had holes she could attack, and the champion followed through by winning most of the sustained mat exchanges.
Dern’s title defense also gives her some distance from the reset she described before the event. Earlier in fight week, she explained how the Yan Xiaonan loss changed her approach before this Robertson defense.
UFC 330 has already produced several finish-heavy moments, including Jeremiah Wells choking Myktybek Orolbai unconscious in a home-state comeback and Jalin Turner stopping Kaue Fernandes in his assigned main-card bout. Dern’s win was not as sudden, but it was the clean title result the co-main event needed.
