Lyoto Machida: “Gegard Mousasi Attacks Me Because My Victory Still Hurts”

Lyoto Machida Says Everything Gegard Mousasi Speaks Motivates Him

Gegard Mousasi and Lyoto Machida have already fought at the main event of UFC Fight Night 36 on February 15, 2014, in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. It was Mousasi’s UFC Middleweight debut. The Dragon won the match via unanimous decision.

Machida received 18-months suspension back in 2016. The Dragon admitted he was taking 7-ketodehydroepiandrosterone, a prohibited steroid. He accepted the penalty but declared he didn’t know the substance was banned. Mousasi uses every opportunity to talk bad things about his PEDs since. Mousasi even said that he demands “extra drug testing” for potential Lyoto Machida rematch.

Yet, The Dragon doesn’t pay much attention to it. He even says Mousasi’s words motivate him. (via MMAMania.com)

”Everything Mousasi says only motivates me,” Machida told MMA Fighting. “I have a win over him and I think he’s a little bothered by it. But I think it’s an easier fight to promote now. I’m very motivated and I want this opportunity, especially with him as a champion. I want the Bellator belt. I’m not here to be part of the roster and just fight. I came here to become champion and remain champion for as long as I can.”

Gegard Mousasi holds the Bellator Middleweight belt at the moment. He has a Bellator MMA score of 2-0, with the unanimous decision victory over Alexander Shlemenko and TKO win over Rafael Carvalho. His notable victims were Chris Weidman, Vitor Belfort, Uriah Hall, Dan Henderson, and many others. Mousasi defends his belt on September 29th versus Rory MacDonald.

Lyoto Machida signed a Bellator MMA deal back in June 2018. He defeated many dangerous opponents – Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort, Shogun Rua, and even Tito Ortiz.

One thing is certain, both fighters are extremely dangerous strikers and the masters of a stand-up game. What do you think, is there a chance two of them will fight soon? Would this be a great spectacle?
