For his return, Rockhold is set to face off against former title challenger Paulo Costa at UFC 278 at the Vivint Arena, Salt Lake City. The 37-year-old California native has been consuming cannabis as well as magic mushrooms to help with prepairing for the fight.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Luke Rockhold opened up about the incorporation of drugs into his training regiment.

“I use marijuana to kinda isolate, I don’t get any need or want to go do other things. It just kind of hyper-focuses me on my goal just being on a one-track mind. Then I try some mushrooms and it enhances my focus within that space so it’s great.

“It hyper focuses me in, weed for training, and then you take the mushrooms to expand your thought process within that space.”

When asked about how often he takes magic mushrooms, Rockhold expanded on the benefits he derives from using them in a focus training setting.

“Four days a week, every day I don’t know. I take it when I run, you use them post-training. I use them for cardiovascular kind of focus training I’d say. You just really analyze, you digest what you’re doing and it gives you perspective, a lot of perspective on your training.”

He revealed that it’s the first time he’s utilizing drugs as a part of camp. The biggest realization for him appears to be a sense of clarity in thoughts and his mind.

“This is the first one I’ve really incorporated. I used it a little bit in the past but no, never like this.”

“Yeah, just focused on what I want and getting everything done in life. “

The former Strikeforce champion is a veteran of the game having started his professional career back in July 2007. He’ll return to the octagon against Paulo Costa at UFC 278 on August 20.
