Leon Edwards thinks Kamaru Usman is biting off a bit more than he can chew.
Edwards is likely the next contender for Usman’s UFC Welterweight Championship. Reports have surfaced claiming the two could be in for a showdown in July during International Fight Week.
Despite this, it seems Usman has been talking a whole lot about a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez. Canelo is widely regarded as the pound-for-pound best boxer today. “Rocky” doesn’t see that going well for “The Nigerian Nightmare.”
Leon Edwards Thinks Usman Struggles Against Him & Canelo
During an interview with The Mirror, Leon Edwards expressed his belief that Kamaru Usman won’t be able to beat him or Canelo Alvarez.
“I don’t know where he’s at. There’s no way he’s going to beat Canelo anyway and there’s no way he’s beating me. I saw something came out the day where he said he’s coming out to wrestle for the whole fight, he can do what he wants. I’m ready to go.
“It’s either the payday or he’s trying to test himself, one or the other. It’s not a long career, so if you can get paid, get paid. I’ll be the champion when he leaves, so I’ll take the belt off of him then he can go and do what he wants to do.”
Usman actually has a victory over Edwards. The two competed back in Dec. 2015. Usman scored the unanimous decision victory. It was the third and last pro MMA loss in “Rocky’s” career thus far. Edwards has gone 9-0, 1 NC since that defeat to Usman.
