After coming up short at UFC 304, both Leon Edwards and Curtis Blaydes offered a reaction to their recent setbacks.

In the evening’s headliner, ‘Rocky’ put his welterweight world title up for grabs against Belal Muhammad in a rematch three years in the making. Edwards went into the bout as a sizeable favorite, but it was Muhammad who gained the upper hand from the get-go, outstriking and outgrappling Edwards throughout the 25-minute affair.

In the end, ‘Remember The Name’ was awarded the win via unanimous decision, crowning him the new king at 170 and exacting some long-awaited revenge.

Following the shocking loss, ‘Rocky’ took to social media to address his fans. He made no excuses for the defeat but promised to bounce back just as he’s always done through tough times in his career and personal life.

“To my fans I’m sorry I couldn’t get the job done this time,” Edwards wrote on Instagram. “I have been through harder times than this in life and I will rise again. Thanks for all the love and support I will get this back in blood.”

Curtis Blaydes ‘Got Greedy’ in His Failed Interim Title Bid at UFC 304

Following suit, Curtis Blaydes addressed his brutal first-round knockout loss against Tom Aspinall in the UFC 304 co-main event. In the statement, ‘Razor’ believes he got a little too greedy after touching the interim heavyweight champ early on and paid the price for not sticking to his game plan.

“Sorry guys, I got greedy when I touched him early and threw out the amazing gameplay that my coaches Vinnie Lopez Cody Donovan came up with that would’ve worked I’m sure of it,” Blaydes wrote on Facebook. “No excuses Tom was on point tonight 😪 I know this isn’t the end of my journey but damnit, I know I’m better than tonight’s performance. I appreciate all the support truly it’s been an eye opening experience to have so many ppl rocking with me.”

With Aspinall’s big win over Blaydes, the UK fan favorite is teed up for a unification clash with undisputed heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones—once ‘Bones’ settles some business with the division’s consensus GOAT Stipe Miocic in November.

Meanwhile, Belal Muhammad will wait for the UFC to decide who his first challenger will be. ‘Bully B’ has already brushed aside the possibility of an immediate rematch with Edwards, but was more than willing to accept a challenge from undefeated welterweight star Shavkat Rakhmonov during his UFC 304 post-fight press conference appearance.

Rakhmonov currently sits as the No. 3 ranked contender in the division, having earned six straight victories inside the Octagon. Overall, ‘Nomad’ is 18-0 with a 100% finish rate.
