Last night I woke up in a haze around 1am. I picked up my phone and I was suddenly sucked into a spinning vortex of twitter drama and rumors created by an H-bomb of sorts surrounding the UFC 151 fight between Jon Jones and Dan Henderson. This twitter bomb was created by an insinuating but vague tweet from Kenny Florian and then all hell broke lose as journalists and fans began digging and racking their brains for scenarios.
The intial response from within the media and supposed ‘inner circle’ type people was that Dan Henderson was out of the UFC 151 title fight with Jon Jones. Those rumors then lead to even more speculation from people pulling random thoughts and assumptions out of their culos including everything from an injured knee to failing a urine test. People ran wild with scenarios and then about an hour later Dan Henderson tweeted a simple tweet about what a great training session he just finished up with Luke Rockhold, Tarec Saffiedine, Cyrille Diabate, and Heath Sims.
Within a few moments everyone Dan included in that tweet, conveniently either retweeted it or replied to it in what appeared to be a sort of confirmation that Dan was in fact not injured and everything was fine. Everyone that is, except Tarec Saffiedine. Maybe Saffiedine was late getting the memo on this one because he had already tweeted about 30 minutes prior to Henderson’s tweet that he hadn’t seen Hendo since his fight-4 days prior. Hmm.
This made the twitterverse go even more insane about the situation because not only did Tarec’s tweets (two different tweets, to two different people-in two different languages no less) contradict Henderson’s claims they had just finished training- well shortly there after Saffiedine’s tweets magically disappeared. After that, Hendo never came back to tweet and dispell any of the rumors other than the training and I’m having a happy day tweet in the wee hours of this morning/last night.
To add to everyone’s speculative gossip whoring brain waves-Dana White also remained silent through the twitter rumor explosion and Kenny Florian has not said anything further about his intial rumor starting tweet. More ‘hmm’. Maybe it’s just one big troll job and Dan Henderson is sitting back getting that happy day ending massge he tweeted about last night and smirking with joy at the MMAverse’s collective panties being in a bunch over all of this. Hopefully sometime today Dana White or Henderson or someone will come out and put our reeling minds at ease.
