  • Khamzat Chimaev made a bold prediction about how a fight between him and Colby Covington would play out
  • “Borz” is confident he will do what Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal can’t

The current UFC welterweight division is stacked with a wide array of exceptional fighters. While Colby Covington remains the No. 1 contender, Khamzat Chimaev has been climbing his way up and would be happy to face “Chaos” in the future.

Chimaev wants to shut Covington up

Reigning welterweight king Kamaru Usman has been sidelined due to a hand injury and is eyeing to make his UFC return in July. Covington hopes that his recent win over Jorge Masvidal would be his launch pad for a third crack at the title.

While nothing is concrete yet about Usman and Covington’s trilogy bout, Chimaev would like to join the party and face “Chaos.” As early as now, “Borz” is already brimming with confidence that he could knock Covington out if Usman and Masvidal can’t.

“If Usman (will be out for a long time), I’d fight with Colby, and I’d kill that guy. Nobody could (really) knock him out,” Chimaev recently told The MMA Hour.

“(You have to)  knock him out like (he’s) dead, (so he can’t) talk more. That’s how to do it. Usman couldn’t do that, Masvidal couldn’t do that. I’m gonna do it.”

Few fights away from title shot

As things stand, Chimaev is on a hot streak, having won his first four UFC fights all by finishes. He is finally set to face a top contender in Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 and is hoping that a win over the Brazilian will set him up for a title shot.

However, UFC president Dana White had previously reckoned that “Borz” may not be ready for a title fight yet and is “still one or two fights away from a championship.”

Chimaev and Burns will take on each other in the main card of UFC 273 this weekend.
