Khalil Rountree is still wearing the scars from his war with Alex Pereira at UFC 307

Much to the surprise of everyone, ‘The War Horse’ was slotted into last month’s headliner in Salt Lake City against the reigning light heavyweight champion. Despite his best efforts—dragging ‘Poatan’ into the fourth—it was Pereira who would come out on top, scoring a vicious TKO against the top 10 contender in the penultimate round.

Immediately following the bout, Rountree’s face looked reminiscent of a Pablo Picasso painting, but just a few short weeks later, ‘The War Horse’ is healing up nicely and gave fight fans a look at his quick recovery.

Of course, Rountree is still wearing the scars from his critically acclaimed clash with Pereira, but—as one fan put it—he’s recovering like a “prime Wolverine.”

Alex Pereira Reveals Hand Injury He Suffered Against Khalil Rountree

Interestingly, Pereira revealed in a recent interview that the plethora of jabs he threw in the bout had his hand hurting like hell. So much so that he thought he’d broken it mid-fight.

“That fourth round, I was throwing jabs and hurting my hand,” Pereira told Podpah. “I swear, I was thinking, ‘My hand must be broken.’ It still hurts. Not all the time, but if I squeeze here, it hurts. I saw that the jabs were working,” Pereira continued. “I thought, ‘I have to hurt him.’ But then I hit him right there in the [forehead], one of the hardest parts [of the body], and it kept hurting.”
