Khabib’s Head Coach Javier Mendez Afraid Of Conor McGregor’s Stand-Up Skills

Javier Mendez: “Conor Is The Best UFC Stand-Up Fighter Ever, Khabib Needs To Stick To Grappling Gameplan At All Costs!”

Javier Mendez is AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) head coach. He trained Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, Mike Swick, Luke Rockhold, and many other superstars. Mendez works with Khabib Nurmagomedov too.

Khabib’s father said no wrestling coach in the world could prepare Conor McGregor for his son. On the other side, Javier Mendez thinks there is no chance to prepare The Eagle for The Notorious’ stand-up skills! He believes Khabib can only look for his chance on the ground. According to Mendez, Conor McGregor is the most dangerous stand-up fighter in the UFC. (via MMAMania.com)

“To me [Conor McGregor] is the best standup guy in the whole UFC, in my opinion,” Mendez told the Eurobash podcast (via MMA Fighting). “There’s no amount of time that we have that’s going to help us to try and get him to stand up, there’s no way possible. So, I’m not gonna say, ‘Oh yeah, we’re gonna get him ready’… come on…wake up…it ain’t gonna work. I want nothing to do with Conor’s stand-up…he’s too good.”

Javier Mendez fears for a good reason. Conor McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) has scored an impressive 18 knockouts in 24 fights! Only his fights versus Nate Diaz and Max Holloway went to the judges’ scorecards. He put Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes, and Eddie Alvarez to sleep.

Khabib Nurmagomedov (26-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC) has scored 8 knockouts in his whole career. His last KO happened at UFC On FX: Belfort Vs Bisping. He knocked Thiago Tavares out after a combo of punches and elbows on the ground. Khabib Nurmagomedov is considered to be one of the best ground fighters at the moment. Don’t forget his submission victory versus Michael Johnson at UFC 205 via Kimura!

This will be the typical grappler versus striker showdown. The fight starts as a stand-up, so Conor has an opening advantage. What are your thoughts? Will the fight be like Rousey Vs Holm at UFC 193? Do you support Javier Mendez?
