Long before Khabib Nurmagomedov went toe-to-toe with Conor McGregor in the biggest fight in UFC history, ‘The Eagle’ was slamming “marijuana guy” Nate Diaz.
Despite being retired from mixed martial arts for nearly five years, Nurmagomedov’s presence in and around the Octagon has been ever-present, whether it be through his Hall of Fame legacy or his stable of world-class talent, including reigning lightweight titleholder Islam Makhachev.
Of course, if we’re ever missing ‘The Eagle’ and his special brand of trash talk, we can always pull up YouTube clips and experience the joy all over again. Like in a recently unearthed clip from a TMZ interview where he hilariously called Nate Diaz the “marijuana guy” while discussing a future clash with McGregor.
“Everybody has forgotten about [McGregor] because he wants to fight with 45-year-old Floyd Mayweather or marijuana guy who’s lost like 10 times — Nate Diaz.”
Nate Diaz Says Khabib is ‘The Worst’
It’s no secret that Diaz is not a big fan of Nurmagomedov either. He indicated as much during an appearance on the Full Send podcast last year, criticizing ‘The Eagle’ over his wrestle-heavy style of fighting.
“F*ck Khabib,” Diaz said. “Khabib is the worst. Just look at him, he ran off, he’s a jock. It’s not my style of fighting. I don’t like it.”
Unfortunately, we never got the chance to see Diaz and Nurmagomedov mix it up inside the Octagon, but if we had, we’ve all got a pretty good idea of how it would have played out. Still, that didn’t stop the ‘Stockton Samurai’ from trying to throw hands with Nurmagomedov in the middle of a UFC event.
