MMA fans were moved by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Cain Velasquez’s recent touching moment.

Khabib pays tribute to Cain

The AKA gym’s official social media page shared a clip of Nurmagomedov watching Velasquez’s title fight win over Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. Velasquez was standing beside Nurmagomedov and while watching through his phone, “The Eagle” revealed that he has watched that fight about “one hundred times” already as Velasquez’s thrilling victory truly inspired him.

Nurmagomedov was even pounding Velasquez’s chest as he tried to cheer the former UFC heavyweight champion up. He could also be heard saying, “I’m proud of him.” On the other hand, Velasquez seemed to be steady but fans could tell that he was trying to control his emotions.

Cain pleaded no contest to felony attempted murder

Some fans also appreciated Nurmagomedov’s gesture as Velasquez is currently facing attempted murder, assault and multiple weapons charges, stemming from a shooting incident in February 2022. They believe it was perfect timing as Velasquez needs that kind of support from his friends from the UFC.

On Friday, he entered a no contest plea to charges of felony attempted murder, assault, and several weapon-related offenses in a California court, resulting in a reduced sentence, per ESPN.

He submitted his plea before Judge Arthur Bocanegra at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, California. Reports indicated that the former champion was set to start his trial on September 9. A hearing for sentencing is scheduled for October 18, although the actual sentencing may take place at a later time.

With this plea agreement, the premeditated murder charges against him will be dismissed, which means he will not face the mandatory life sentence in prison with the possibility of parole.

Velasquez last fought in the UFC in 2019 and had a brief run as a professional wrestler. He logged a pre MMA record of 14-3 and is considered as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters in history.
