Khabib Nurmagomedov might have a career in comedy now that fighting is over.
In his day, Khabib Nurmagomedov was considered to be one of, if not the best fighter in the UFC. He retired with an impressive 29-0 record and has been enjoying life ever since. He started his own MMA fight promotion called Eagle FC, he continues to train up-and-coming fighters, including title contender, Islam Makhachev, and he owns several businesses. Nurmagomedov is a man of many talents and is proving himself to be quite funny at that.
Nurmagomedov has always been interested in soccer and now that he is retired has more time to enjoy his hobby. He toyed with the idea of playing on a professional level at one point but now seems content to watch from the sidelines. He was recently at an event with a number of well-known sports personalities and got into an awkward situation with famed football manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
“I was with Patrice Evra, It was Usain Bolt, it was Sir Alex Ferguson, and Alex Ferguson asked me about wine,” he explained. “For him is good, you know, I don’t judge him, but how I have to explain to him. There is two things, you can be straight and say no no no I’m Muslim I never drink. But other things I told him. This is not good because if I drink I can smash all of you guys. This is not good idea for you.”
Nurmagomedov is Muslim and therefore does not drink alcohol. He has been very open and vocal bout his faith and it is a large part of his personality. Instead of taking the strict approach to turning down a drink for one of his idols, Nurmagomedov made a little joke instead. During his UFC days, he was known for being very solemn and stone-faced. Since he walked away from competitive fighting the softer side of “The Eagle” has come out. He still took the time to explain his reasoning in more detail as well.
“Being Muslim it’s not easy, but same time, you don’t have to make this tough,” he said. “Just be a good person and show them you are Muslim and that’s it and I think Usain Bolt and Patrice Evra they understand but Sir Alex Ferguson understand because, he don’t want I smash everybody too and they say okay, don’t drink wine.”
This lighter side of Nurmagomedov is being appreciated but his fans. He was also in a commercial for Etihad Airlines that was pretty comical as well.
