Khabib Nurmagomedov Eying Winner Of Poirier Vs. Alvarez If Conor, GSP Falls Out

Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is back in training and already listed few opponents he would like to lock horns with if Conor Mcgregor or Georges St-Pierre falls out.

A showdown between Khabib vs. McGregor has been on the cards for very longtime following Dagestan native’s unforgettable call out of McGregor at UFC 205.

The eager to see them thrown down inside the Octagon reached fever pitch when Mcgregor attack a fighters bus at UFC 223 media day carrying a Nurgamomedov.

Khabib went on to claiming 155lbs gold back at UFC 223, and Mcgregor who are currently dealing with legal issues in regards to bus rampage and hasn’t competed since claiming the lightweight title at UFC 205, where he became the promotion’s first two-weight world champion simultaneous.

Last month Khabib confirmed that UFC is in negotiation for a potential matchup with Mcgregor, but things seem hazy at the moment until Mcgregor clear out his court issues first. So Khabib thinks if it’s not with Irishman or GSP, then it could be the winner of an intriguing fight between Dustin Poirier vs. Eddie Alvarez that is happening at UFC on FOX 30.

“If not Conor, if not GSP, I think Alvarez vs. Poirier, I think the winner deserves a title shot,” Nurmagomedov told Anatomy of a Fighter recently (Via MMA Fighting).

Khabib says the final decision regarding who would be his next opponent depends on UFC, but Russian is open for a title defense against Tony Ferguson, who is nursing his torn LCL injury. Both Khabib and Tony was scheduled to fight for four times in past for December 11, 2015, April 16, 2016, March 4, 2017, and April 7, 2018, call it insane bad luck or some weird curse it failed to occur.

“About Tony Ferguson, I don’t know,” Nurmagomedov said. “He just had surgery. If he can, why not? Tony Ferguson is biggest match-up for me. This match what I want, what people want, what fans want but I don’t know about his healthy. If he’s ready, let’s go. Why not? I’m ready for September, I’m ready for October, I’m training all the time. I’m here to defend my title. If the UFC gives me any opponent, I’m ready for this, to beat this guy.”

“If they want to make money, let’s go,” Nurmagomedov said. “Khabib vs. Conor, country vs. country, fans vs. fans. It’s gonna be very big, one of the biggest – I think biggest match-up in UFC history, me vs. Conor. Without bus, without other things, we just have to fight but I don’t think the UFC can make the decision about this fight. About this fight, I think only Conor can make this decision. If he wants to lose and make money, he has to say yes and sign this contract and come back because people forget about when he fought last time.”

To remind you, as soon Mcgregor clears out his legal troubles, the first thing UFC will do is to book a Khabib vs. Mcgregor showdown.
