Khabib Nurmagomedov: Daniel Cormier Only Fighter Who Can Beat Curtis Blaydes

Rising heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes used a nasty series of elbows to score a third-round TKO win over Alistair Overeem at UFC 225. After the victory, Blaydes put himself on the shortlist of heavyweight title contenders and improves to 10-1 (1 NC).

Blaydes electrifying performance noted by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and believes light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is only one man who can defeat “Razor.”

Nurmagomedov had a conversation with documentary producer Will Harris of Anatomy of a Fighter, where he heaped praise Blaydes and feels he will be a UFC champion one day: (Via BloodyElbow)

“I think Blaydes can become UFC champion,” Khabib said. “He has very good wrestling, he’s young, he’s strong, he’s hungry, he has different motivation. I think he’s the new blood in the UFC’s heavyweight division.”

“I think only one guy can beat him. I think Daniel Cormier; he can beat him,” he said. “Other guys, even Stipe Miocic, I think for Stipe, he’s a bad matchup, because he pressures all the time, (he has) very good wrestling.”

“But, we’ll see. He’s the new blood,” Nurmagomedov added, before referencing the upcoming bout between Miocic and Cormier. “We have to wait (until after) July 7th (UFC 226). I think he deserves a title shot, more than everybody.”

Nurmagomedov impressed by Blaydes fighting style and that certainly put him in a position to earn big fights.

It’s an interesting argument, but to be noted; Blaydes hasn’t fought anyone in UFC with good wrestling skills and athleticism that Miocic possesses.

Daniel Cormier who is gearing up for a super fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. Also, Nurmagomedov is a close friend and training partner to Cormier.

Do you agree with the lightweight champion that Cormier is the only fighter who is capable of stopping Blaydes?
