- Khabib Nurmagomedov encouraged his friend Kamaru Usman to continue pursuing a big money fight against Canelo Alvarez
- Usman and his manager Ali Abdelaziz have been calling out Alvarez and got in a brief exchange online
Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has urged current UFC welterweight king Kamaru Usman to keep trying to secure a fight against Canelo Alvarez.
Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to see the fight happen
As much as Usman and Abdelaziz have been trying to hype the potential crossover fight up, serious talks are far from development. Many members of the MMA community want to see the fight happen so that Usman gets a big payday and among them, is an undefeated world champion.
Khabib Nurmagomedov showed his support to make the fight happen as he wrote to Usman on Instagram:
“Let’s go, brother, now is your time.”
Being managed by Abdelaziz, there’s speculation over who controls the Dagestani’s accounts. There have been numerous posts uploaded to Nurmagomedov’s accounts that favor Abdelaziz and have no direct link to himself.
Kamaru Usman’s camp and Canelo go back and forth
Kamaru Usman is the reigning pound-for-pound champion in the UFC. Although he’s expected to take on Leon Edwards in his next fight, other big names have swooped into the picture for his return from horrifying hand surgery.
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is friends with the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov who both share the same manager in Ali Abdelaziz, the head of the management label Dominance MMA.
Ahead of Canelo’s fight this May 7 against Dmitry Bivol, Abdelaziz took to Twitter to call out the boxing champion for allegedly ducking Usman.
“@Canelo is an absolute chicken, he is fighting guys with 5000 followers on Instagram, these guys will never do nothing for his legacy. Now I understand why he doesn’t wanna lose to someone like @USMAN84kg this is chicken style, no risk – no reward.“
Canelo delivered a response faster than Amazon Prime in about 30 minutes poking fun at the renowned MMA manager.
“who the fuck is this? 🤣🤣🥴”
Usman weighs in on the back and forth.
“Let’s just all relax… before somebody gets hurt 😉”
“I agree cuz it will not be me 👊🏻“
Canelo Alvarez tells Usman to wait
It appears that Canelo is focusing on building his legacy in boxing and is not too keen on the idea of a big-money fight against an MMA athlete just yet.
Not one to let things go without getting the final word in, Ali Abdelaziz chimed in with a final response to the whole scuffle online.
