Khabib Calls GSP’s ‘Matchup Tough’ Says He Would Have To Smash St-Pierre

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is expected to fight the former champion, Conor McGregor, next and the eyes of the MMA world are focused on their potential blockbuster showdown. But that doesn’t mean he can’t discuss other possible super fight options.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was in attendance at UFC On Fox 30 event in Calgary, during Q&A before the ceremonial weigh-ins Dagestani was asked about a showdown with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Khabib praised GSP, also said if they ever squared off inside the Octagon it will be one hell of a fight but suggested he’ll win. (Via MMAMania)

“Georges is greatest competitor in the UFC of all time,” Nurmagomedov said. “Even if we fight, I think it’s going to be a very tough matchup for me, and for him too. I never lose round in the UFC. I think I can give him very tough match. I know you guys love him, but when cage door close I have to smash my opponents.”

“In my mind I think nobody can beat me,” he added.

St-Pierre returned from a four-year hiatus at UFC 217 in November of 2017 and scored an all-time classic of a victory over Michael Bisping to claim the 185-pound belt. Shortly after, GSP vacated the belt after dealing with ulcerative colitis.

Well, St-Pierre said he wants to fight again, he wants another bout which will add to his legacy and hinted to return at lightweight division. GSP though said earlier this year that he’s not interested in fighting with Khabib at the moment.

But currently, UFC is focusing on booking Mcgregor vs. Khabib showdown probably for this year, and St-Pierre’s return is still in the air when he’ll return.
