Kevin Lee Wants 165-Pound Title Fight Versus Georges St-Pierre In NYC

Kevin Lee came to a very interesting idea. Under the excuse that 155 and 170-pound divisions are “messed up at the moment”, The Motown Phenom has discovered a new weight division – 165-pounds. And he proposes nothing else but a title fight versus French-Canadian superstar Georges St-Pierre.

And the strangest thing – Kevin Lee really believes this fight could make clarity among the two divisions. No comment, even a bizarre statement could be a too light word for this “idea”. (via MMAMania.com)

“The 155lb and 170lb (divisions) are so messed up right now,” Lee explained. “You’ve got three titles between the two divisions already, so they’ve got to add another weight class.

”I think me and Georges for the 165lb title makes the most amount of sense. You do Conor [McGregor] and Khabib [Nurmagomedov] in October, you do me and Georges in November, at Madison Square Garden.

”And maybe you do Tyron [Woodley] and Colby [Covington] to figure out the 170lb division.”

Kevin Lee has never fought over 160 lbs, while GSP has never had a call under 170 lbs. This is not the first time The Motown Phenom tried to push UFC officials to accept this idea, but nobody has ever called GSP yet. Georges St-Pierre was linked to a possible showdown with Nate Diaz, so a drop-down could be an option.

But why would Kevin Lee be the fighter who forces GSP to switch categories? We believe St-Pierre is currently looking for a showdown with a fighter who has a better ranking. The only thing he wants is superfights at the moment.

“Georges is one of the ones that really got me into the sport, I’ve kinda even modelled my career after him a little bit,” said Lee.

”We started in the same first promotion, we had the same first manager, we have the same management (Creative Artists Agency) now.

”There are so many parallels to us now, that I think that adds even more intrigue to the fight

”It will be the hardest fight of my career, it’ll be the biggest challenge But, as soon as I get back home from UFC Singapore, I’m going to go back and figure out how to beat the man.”

Kevin Lee is currently one of the best fighters in UFC Lightweight division. He defeated the tremendous Brazilian striker Edson Barboza last April. Tony Ferguson is the only fighter who was able to defeat The Motown Phenom since 2016. Despite he has world class grappling and wrestling, GSP probably won’t feel it inside the octagon.

But maybe, if you try reading between the lines, Kevin Lee looks for a showdown in Welterweight division. It might be a perfect choice, especially if we consider the fact he missed weight for the last fight versus Edson Barboza. Kevin Lee probably enjoys torturing his body. What do you think, who might be Lee’s next opponent and will he climb a division up? Please send us your suggestions!
