Kevin Lee Interested In Fight With Khabib Nurmagomedov

Kevin Lee moved up to welterweight recently. However, he is considering moving back down to lightweight, for a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Kevin Lee was once considered to be one of the hottest prospects in the UFC’s lightweight rankings. However, after a couple of losses, and struggles making weight, he made the decision to move up to 170lbs. Unfortunately that has not gone as planned for Lee either, as he lost his welterweight debut against Rafael Dos Anjos.

Nevertheless, Lee is still motivated and looking for a big fight. While he has had his eyes set on Kamaru Usman’s title since moving up in weight, he has more options in mind. Speaking with ESPN, he discussed the potential of moving back down to lightweight for a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

I told them I will take whatever fight. I’ll go back down to 155 if I need to. After looking at that last fight with Khabib — I did an interview before that fight. before Khabib fought Dustin, I wasn’t too impressed.

I thought Usman was going to be the bigger challenge and for me, I like the biggest challenge out there. But after seeing the way that Khabib kind of handled Dustin, I might want to get the piece of that cake. I might want a piece of that.”

He went on to explain why he wants to fight Khabib, who is fresh off his UFC 242 win over Dustin Poirier

I like the biggest target that I can find and right now everyone sees Khabib.  I mean they already kind of saw it before, but now I’m even coming around to it. He’s the real challenge out there. He’s the guy that’s going to challenge Jon Jones for the pound-for-pound title. That’s the kind of fight that wakes me up in the morning.”

Having lost three of his last four UFC outings, it seems that Kevin Lee is still a bit away from a lightweight title shot. However, if the two did square off, it would be interesting to see how their wrestling acumen compared.
