Kevin Holland helped subdue an active shooter and he even used a submission that is all too familiar to MMA fans.

Holland is no stranger to stopping crime in its tracks. Back in Oct. 2021, he stopped a man from trying to jack a car. Fast forward to March 2022 and Holland continues to fight crime.

Kevin Holland Used Submission To Thwart Crime

Kevin Holland was enjoying his time with a friend at a sushi restaurant in Houston until there was a disturbance. Speaking to ESPN, Holland shared his initial reaction to hearing gunfire.

“I was facing one way and then we he heard a big, loud bang. I thought it was a champagne bottle popping, because the people behind us were having a birthday party. I go to look around and I see people running like they had the look of death on [their] face, like super worried.”

The UFC welterweight went on to say that he and his friend, Patrick Robinson, laid low for cover. A good samaritan wrestled the gunman to the ground. Holland and Robinson both helped pry the gun from the man’s hand and Holland locked in a rear-naked choke.

“As soon as he was [asleep], I let go of the choke, slid out on top, got full mount, stretched the arms out so he couldn’t reach for anything.”

Police arrived and arrested the gunman. Holland said he wouldn’t recommend anyone perform the same actions he did unless they are properly trained.

“I wouldn’t tell the next person to do it unless they’re seriously trained for that type of situation. Besides doing cage fighting, I train self-defense first and foremost. For me, that was the best way to defend myself at the moment. Plus, I like Batman.”

Holland is fresh off a second-round TKO victory over Alex Oliveira. After the fight, he called for a showdown with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone but he’s also down to fight Daniel Rodriguez.
