Oh the way us media folk can spin a story to make it seem either negative or positive is really amazing. Take this new Ken Shamrock story for example. It was originally reported on TMZ, and the first paragraph of the source report reads exactly like this:
“UFC hall-of-famer Ken Shamrock — one of the greatest MMA fighters ever — has been accused of battering a woman at a California mall … but Ken claims it was an honest mistake … ’cause he thought she was a he.”
Granted it is TMZ -which is nothing but spin and humor, but that intro does nothing but lead the general public to believe Ken Shamrock attacked some helpless woman at a shoping mall in a fit of steroid induced violent UFC fighter rage. That couldn’t be further from the truth in this story. The reality here is Shamrock was actually being a good samaritan and he was attacked by a large burly woman in the process.
Last month Shamrock was hanging out at a mall in Modesto, CA-because what else is there to do in the middle of the day when you’re a 48 year old semi-retired guy who goes by the nickname of “the most dangerous man in the world”, right? While he was hanging out, enjoying a nice leisurely
stroll by the Coach purse store-he noticed a couple of chicks involved in what was obviously an unsanctioned and unlawful bout of sloppy street mma. Shamrock decided to be a good guy and break up the fight before these two women folk hurt themselves and while doing so he was attacked from behind by another person.
At that point-without knowing who or why he was being attacked from behind, Shamrock did what any person defending themselves would do. He attempted to get the attacker off of him and incapacitate them. After doing so, he realized his attacker was a in fact a large burly woman and at that point he backed off.
Apparently, either the female attacker or the police decided to file a battery report about the inicident because the woman received a small abrasion on her knee but the police are not likely to file charges against Shamrock because he was acting in self defense. That’s the real story and we’re sticking to it. Ken Shamrock is a good dude and his record reflects his gameness. Ken Shamrock doesn’t duck fights, he just breaks them up. [Source]
