Kamaru Usman still has hope for a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez.
The UFC Welterweight Champion’s next fight won’t be in the ring though, Usman is set to rematch Leon Edwards at UFC 278. While Edwards has his attention, Usman can’t help but look into the future.
Usman Will Be Paying Close Attention To Canelo’s Next Fight
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ not only has dreams of moving up to light heavyweight, he’s got a super-fight with Canelo on his mind. The Mexican superstar is set to tango against Gennady Golovkin on September 17th (Mexican Independence Day) and of course Usman will have his eyes on that.
“I would love that,” Usman said of potentially crossing paths with Canelo (via TMZ). “(Sep. 17), that was supposed to be my date with Canelo, but, of course he found someone else to dance with, which is GGG. The trilogy, that’s an incredible fight. That’s something that I’m definitely gonna be paying attention to and watching.”
“Crazier Things have Happened”
Usman would reignite his plea for the super-fight, citing all of the eyeballs will be on the matchup if it’s announced.
“In the modern day era, this era right now, he’s one of the best to do it.” Usman said of Canelo. “It’s just a spectacle for us to be able to step in there. It’s never been done pound for pound vs. pound per pound, and they are significantly close in weight classes to be able to do it.
Why not? Why not? I know a lot of people hate on it and say, oh, you can’t do this. You can’t do that. Big, crazier things have happened. I don’t think there’s gonna be anyone in the world who’s not watching that fight even though they want to hate on it. When you hear that fight’s announced, everyone will be watching that fight.”
