Kai Asakura’s MMA journey is super interesting. There’s a video of him and his brother having a tough street fight, both throwing big punches at each other. It’s crazy to see how it all started.

Kai Asakura Opens Up About Street Fight with His Brother

At UFC 310, Kai Asakura will face Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight championship at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Asakura, who previously held the Rizin flyweight title, is looking to make a huge mark in the UFC.

But before he made his name in big MMA arenas, his journey started in a much different way. Instead of just training in gyms like many others, Asakura’s first real fight was with his own brother Mikuru. His brother, known for street fighting, challenged him, and Kai didn’t back down. Even though Mikuru was throwing strong punches, Kai was fast and dodged most of them. That’s when Kai figured out that he could be a fighter and make it his career.

On the UFC 310 Countdown Show, the fighter shared how he started by fighting his brother and that made him ready for big fights.

“The story of how I got into MMA is quite crazy. My older brother was fighting on the street every day. He beat everyone, and there was no one left to fight. So, one day, my older brother called me into the street in the middle of the night.

“Suddenly, he gave me some boxing gloves to wear. He was really trying to kill me with each strike. I was able to dodge everything. It was the first time I ever had a real fight. That’s when I realized I had serious potential as a fighter.”

Alexandre Pantoja is looking up to his hero, Anderson Silva, as he prepares for UFC 310. Growing up in Brazil, Pantoja watched Silva take down opponents with incredible kicks, and now he wants to do the same in his upcoming fight. He’s hoping to bring that same level of skill and power to the Octagon.

Mikuru has been having a tough time lately, losing two of his last three fights, including a first-round knockout against Ren Hiramoto in July under a Rizin banner. But Kai has been on a roll, winning 15 out of 21 fights and heading into his UFC debut with a two-fight winning streak. Pantoja, on the other hand, hasn’t lost a fight since 2020, securing a title win and defending it twice.
