These giant, grizzled veterans finally threw down. Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski is a fight that could have happened back in a UFC event at ’99, or could have made it’s home in Affliction, but here we have it on the UFC Hamburg card in the year 2016. These guys wasted no time getting after it and both almost were finished in the first round.
WELL LET'S JUST GET AFTER IT THEN!!!!!!! @AndreiArlovski and @JoshLBarnett wasting no time!! #UFCHamburg https://t.co/8vRJk2yorH

Eventually, Barnett started bringing out his bread and butter. He pulled off a slick, wristlock takedown that would make Kazushi Sakuraba proud, but lost the hold. Later, Arlovski wouldn’t be so lucky. Eventually, Barnett got the back and choked Arlovski for the victory. It was the first time Arlovski was submitted in MMA.
Now, Arlovski goes back in Heavyweight limbo and Barnett is once again right there in the mix. Could we really end up having a Barnett v.s. Alistair Overeem main event if Overeem wins the title at UFC 203? Because that sounds awesome.
Check out the great, post-fight show of respect by Barnett below.
