Aldo and Marlon “Chito” Vera are booked for a submission-only grappling rematch at Hype FC Ecuador on October 4 in Quito, turning their old UFC meeting into a no-punching chess fight with teeth.
The announcement came through Aldo’s verified Instagram account, where the event graphic listed Marlon Vera vs. Jose Aldo, submission only, Quito, Ecuador, and the October 4 date. Hype’s event page also lists Coliseo General Ruminahui as the venue and sells the night around submission-only grappling superfights plus a bare-knuckle undercard.

Aldo already beat Vera once, taking a unanimous decision on December 19, 2020 at UFC Vegas 17. All three judges had it 29-28 for Aldo, giving him his first bantamweight win after the Petr Yan title-fight loss and kicking off a late-career run that briefly had people wondering if the old featherweight monster had found a second belt lane.
This rematch is a different kind of problem. No leg kicks, no counters, no classic Aldo body work that makes ribs file paperwork. If Hype sticks to the posted submission-only label, Vera’s scramble game moves to the front while Aldo gets to show how much of his grappling muscle memory is still sitting under the hood.
Vera has already been dabbling in this lane. He went to a draw with Jean Silva under Hype FC rules earlier this year, and his UFC run has been turbulent since challenging Sean O’Malley for gold. Aldo’s MMA retirement still hangs over this booking.
