Jose Aldo Calls Out Anthony Pettis, ‘Showtime’ Accepts The Challenge

‘Scarface’ Is Open To Fight At Lightweight Against Anthony Pettis

Jose Aldo is fighting Renato Moicano tonight (Sat. February 2, 2019) in the co-main event of UFC Fortaleza. This bout is one of the few fights left in his UFC contract.

Former WEC and UFC featherweight champion already said he wants to hang up his gloves once his deal is over with the promotion. Aldo even said his desire to chase the title fight is not there anymore and he’d instead prefer to take care of his health after dedicating half of his life to professional fighting.

Earlier this week, speaking to UFC Fight Night 144 media day, Aldo revealed he was offered a Donald Cerrone’s fight, but it seems UFC has some other plans for ‘Cowboy’ want to book him against Conor Mcgregor. So for ‘Scarface’ Cerrone is no longer an option.

Beside that Aldo said if he emerges victorious, there is another fight at lightweight that interest him is against Anthony Smith.

“This fight was very close (to happening),” Aldo said of Cerrone (h/t MMA Fighting). “They offered it to us and I was really happy because we’re both aggressive fighters and it would be a big fight, but the discussion has taken another path now, he’s trying to fight Conor (McGregor) and I don’t see how this fight happens now.”

“But (Anthony) Pettis would be an excellent opponent,” he continued. “We were close to fighting twice before and didn’t happen. Having this fight in May, at lightweight, would be even better.”

‘Showtime’ has since replied to Jose Aldo on social media:

I accept! I love Brazil 🇧🇷 gonna be a fun year !! #teampettis

There was a time when everyone talks about the most intriguing super fight if ever happen was between Anthony Pettis vs. Jose Aldo, however, for some reason, this match never comes to fruition. Both former WEC and UFC champions were in the prime of their careers at that time.

Both were supposed to fight in the main event of UFC 163 back in August of 2013, for featherweight clash. Sadly ‘Showtime’ suffered a knee injury that pulled him from the bout, however, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung takes his place. ‘Scarface’ went on to win the fight via fourth-round TKO.

Currently, Pettis is slated to make his welterweight debut against Stephen Thompson on March 23rd at UFC Nashville.

Aldo wants to return as soon as this May at UFC 237 pay-per-view event.

So let’s see how things play out for Aldo.

Should he emerge victorious tonight, do you want to see Aldo take on Pettis next?
