Jose Aldo’s Coach Andre Pederneiras Wants Volkanovski Vs Aldo Next

Coach Andre Pederneiras Thinks Alexander Volkanovski Is The Great Opponent For Jose Aldo

Jose Aldo defeated Renato Moicano via second-round TKO in the co-main event of UFC Fortaleza last Saturday.

Shortly after the fight, “Scarface” received an offer from Alexander Volkanovski for a short-notice bout.

But when Jose Aldo was asked about a potential clash against Volkanovski, the Brazilian “seemed surprised” and said “Sorry!”.

Jose Aldo said he planned to fight three more times in Brazil and retire by the end of 2019. It makes us wonder who’ll be the next in line for “Scarface”. Aldo’s coach and manager Andre Pederneiras claims there are two possibilities and describes why Alexander Volkanovski sounds like a perfect opponent at the moment. (h/t BJPenn)

“We want him to fight Alexander Volkanovski, the guy who knocked out Chad Mendes, the guy who is the best ranked,” Jose aldo coach Pederneiras said when speaking on Confraria da Porrada. “In fact, it is the following: we have a dream to dispute the title, which is difficult. So we have the dream of our last fight to get there.

“There are only two possibilities. Max Holloway moves up in weight and leaves the belt vacant, and Aldo would be the postulate to the title, even for the history that he has and for being the first of the ranking, or to eliminate all the contenders. The Moicano fight was the first contender, in our head, and the second would be Alexander Volkanovski, who is the fourth-ranked now. Or Frankie Edgar, I don’t believe they give him the title shot while having lost to Aldo. So the guy in our head who would be the next title challenger would be Alexander now. We’re talking,”

Despite Alexander Volkanovski wants a title shot badly, he claims a fight against a top contender is a suitable option for him.

“I want to fight someone for the number one contender. Whoever is looking to take that title fight, me first and let’s see who deserves this shot,” Volkanovski said at a UFC 234 media scrum this week. “Or give me the shot right away let’s not mess about. … However it works, just give me a fight and give me someone right up there.”

Volkanovski looked back at Aldo’s weird “Sorry!” response to his callout.

“He said, ‘Sorry,’” Volkanovski stated. “I don’t know if that’s a, ‘Sorry, I don’t know him.’ Or a, ‘Sorry, that ain’t happening.’ I don’t really care. I don’t think he’s looking at a title run. So if that fight makes sense for me, I don’t even know.

Alexander Volkanovski respects Aldo. But if the Brazilian stands on his road to the title, “The Great” is ready to defeat him.

“I know who he is, I ain’t going to lie,” he continued. “I know exactly who he is and he’s great. I’ve got a lot of respect for what he’s done, but at the same time my path is to that title, and if he’s in front of me I’m going to do what I’m going to do against all of them.”

What are your thoughts on Aldo Vs Volkanovski? Do you think this match will happen?
