Jorge Masvidal Accuses UFC Of Protecting New Middleweight Champ

Newly crowned UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya had a bit of a quick road to the title. Because of this, Jorge Masvidal says the UFC has been protecting him.

Israel Adesanya won the UFC’s middleweight strap against Robert Whittaker, over the weekend. The UFC 243 main event saw him completely dominate the now-former champ, en route to a second round knockout. However, this was only a year and a half into his UFC tenure, with his only other notable wins being against Kelvin Gastelum and Derek Brunson.

It is this fact that has caused UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal to think that the UFC was protecting Adesanya. In a recent Twitter post, he says the UFC has been protected Adesanya from Yoel Romero.

“I told everyone that no one is the same after fighting Yoel Romero. You guys will see. UFC [was] smart for protecting Israel. Yoel wins one and should be next. Should’ve been the one from the get. Rob will never be the same.”

Masvidal says that Yoel Romero was the one to ruin the career of Robert Whittaker. After fighting the man for 50 grueling minutes, it is not hard to see why. Add that to the fact that Whittaker did not fight for almost 2 years after their second match, and there is some truth to that.

Jorge Masvidal has his own tough fight ahead of him, at UFC 244. He will be facing Nate Diaz in the main event, at MSG. The bout is to determine who will earn the new BMF title, and is one of the most highly anticipated bouts of the year.
